Ready…set….wait!
Hello all. Slacking is what I do best. i have quite a few new photographs. As always, Los Angeles was a blast. I’m so hooked on that city its disgusting. My friends out there are like family. The new friends I’ve made the past 6 months are incredible people. I couldn’t be more pleased with what I’ve gotten out of these trips to the west coast. I’m crossing my fingers that these next few months fly by. Though I’ll probably be back out there within the next two months, once August comes me and my dog Sophia head out there for 1-2months. Living off of couches and seeing what kind of photo work I can get done while out there. If it is consistent, then I rent. If not, then….well there is no “impossible” in my future so we don’t need to go there. Just going to have to take that chance of being a small fish in a big pond—-(that’s how that saying goes, right? RIGHT?! Eh, ‘When in rome’…*that one is for Mike Janes*)
While I was out there, I got a chance to see an exhibition (Brandon Boyd). Yall already know the dude is my idol. My modern day Diane Arbus. His work rules so hard. I must have a streak of luck flowing through my blood. Rick didn’t want to stand in line for the exhibition so he waited in the car. There I was by myself for 3 hours at the event. It was amazing. Beautiful work—beautiful mural—-good vibes. I got a chance to photograph him. Never thought that would happen. He’s as equally down to earth as he is talented.
The next few days consisted of meeting up with friends. Rick and I grabbed dinner with Ms. Jillian at Velvet Margarita. That place is crazy awesome. It’s hard to explain…just check that shit out if you can! Went to Venice (it was Rick’s first time) and ran into friends there. Met up with family I haven’t seen in a while. That was a LOT of fun. I don’t have much family here—-so it was great getting to hang out and spit the shit with my cousins and aunt. They are hilarious. Wish I would have taken a photo of them together, damn! Celebrated a friends birthday at Rainbow. Met up with my best friend *since age 12 I might add* at Venice. Her me and the bro grabbed a drank and chilled out on the beach. That was a moment. A very special hazy moment. Sigh…
Anyway…I could really go on and on with this particular entry. So much to say—-but I gotta keep it about the photos! So here ya go…
^^ PB&J. Ever have that super close friend that you have a LOT in common with while being polar opposites at the same time? That’s me & Lucy. Or, MAMA Lucy. Or, MAMA Les(bian). She is all of those roles in one. Though we can sit on her couch inebriated out of our minds, laugh at the same stupid things, share a mutual love for our dogs, party just as hard, and want the same food (see above) when needed, we still cut our sandwiches differently. I call her Mama Lucy because she’s about 4 months older than me, but takes care and watches out for me like my own mother. She will set her brain to sober mode after drinking like a frat boy if she sees me stumbling over after my 1.5 alcoholic beverage. All for the sake of taking care of me. She has the loyalty that has been impossible for me to come by. Thank GOD for Lucy. Below is a photo I took of her at Swingers.
^^ Lucy
^RaRa. This is RaRa. I’ve gotten to know him the past couple of months while wandering Venice photographing. He has an interesting life story and fuckin’ kills at what he does. He’s always hooking it up with his paintings. I saw him a few days ago and he asked, “What are you doing back so soon?! Couldnt keep away huh?!” Introduced him to my brother. The guy is so cool. Great personality and so easy to talk to. I’ll sit behind his table set up and just hang out and spit the shit with him. Look him up, buy some work! You won’t regret it.
You know. I don’t know this dudes name, haha! I often go to Venice by myself to sit around, observe people and photograph. Most of the times I am at the beach 5 hours at a time. It’s the best time for me. He usually catches me sitting by myself and sings songs I don’t understand…but he can play the guitar so that’s what matters most haha. The last time I saw him he gave me a speech about ‘being independent’ and how his best friend stole his car or some shit. Whatever. We talked for about 20minutes. It was good, interesting conversation and he wanted his photo taken. Why not?!
^^Silvio. This is Silvio. I met him back in November when I was sitting by taking photos of the skaters doing their thang. He struck up conversation, we exchanged contact information and kept in touch since. Really glad I got to spend the day with him on this last trip. The dude is hilarious and all around amazing. I love this guy! Taught him the importance of “cray cray”. He calls me a lesbian. We’re perfect for each other, haha. Really though, most definitely one of my favorites of the new friends I have been making. He’s definitely great at what he does (skating, duh) and hungry for making it—I love being around the type of person with determination in their blood. It’s motivating.
^^Brandon Boyd. Last (for now) but not least…Brandon Boyd. Took this at his the Hurley x Brandon Boyd Hope Exhibition. So amazing. I already gave yall the jist of it earlier in the blog…but I’ll say it again—-it ruled hard. So glad I was able to go, photograph him and his artwork. Please look it up online. There are so many videos of the preparation and the actual event.
That’s about all I’ve got for ya. I’m beat, my eyes hurt, and me and my favorite Brian are going to hang with my best bud Marisa for her 25th Birthday. Old ass hussie!
Hope you guys enjoyed the photographs thus far. I’ll be posting more later during the week.
(P.S. I forgot to mention—-one of the nights we were all at the bar. 5+ people sat around on the bar patio quoting Point Break for 10 minutes. It was the highlight of my existence and all the more reason to not want to leave)
